29 Oct 2021 Global video marathon to highlight climate crisis impact, demand action
On November 5, 2021 WACC will join hundreds of organizations around the world in a 24-hour Video Marathon, Hands Off our Rights, Hands off our Planet!, which will take place during the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow. The climate summit will be held October 31 to November 12, 2021.
Organized by the Collective for Climate Rights, the video marathon will highlight the impact of the climate crisis on the lives and rights of oft-excluded voices and demand that global leaders take immediate action.
WACC has invited its members and partners to participate by recording or uploading 1-minute videos (using either a cellphone or a PC) on the marathon’s website.
“This is a great opportunity to add your voice to the clamour for action to save our planet,” said WACC General Secretary Philip Lee. “No longer can governments and global corporations ignore the opinions of the global majority who want a safe and sustainable world.”
The marathon will begin in in Fiji and end in Hawaii, on the eve of 5 days of action in Glasgow and around the world.
The marathon is being supported by WACC, along with Amnesty International, Heinrich Boll Stiftung, Foundation for Media Alternatives, Global Witness, Fian Internacional Honduras, Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung, among others.
The Collective for Climate Rights is an outgrowth of the 2019 People’s Summit, which gathered international civil rights groups around the world concerned by the impact of the climate crisis on people and communities most at risk. It has since worked on establishing projects and processes to strengthen the climate and human rights movement.
